A respected thoracic surgeon and also a Mafia confidant, Elliot Litner was a self-described “nerdy, Jewish kid from the Bronx” who’d witnessed a slaying as a boy yet kept mum, impressing local hoodlums; later, his acquaintance with mobsters’ sons provided entree to New York’s Cosa Nostra during its heyday.

I especially liked the part where Giuliani still screwed him in the end. I actually had to skim through pages just to “finish” it. Jan 10, Shirley Metelmann rated it really liked it. What shocked me most, is how involved the mob is in every aspect of business, government, politics.

As far as “mafia true crime” books go, this one is pretty good.

We’re Going to Win This Thing. However, the author did a lovely job creating the memoir into a suspenseful novel towards the end when the mob was pressuring the doctor to kill a guy; and Rudy Giuliani was threatening him to save the guy.
